Cabinet from April 2008 to February 2009

Pool MoncloaJosé Luis Rodríguez Zapatero is re-elected as President of the Government following the general elections on 9 March 2008 and his appointment is officially ratified by the Lower House of Parliament on 11 April.

On the following day, 12 April, the Royal Decree confirming his appointment is published in the Official State Gazette (Spanish acronym: BOE). He takes the oath on the same day before the King at Zarzuela Palace and announces his new cabinet.

On 14 April 2008, the new composition of the first government of the 9th Legislature is published in the Official State Gazette.

The members of the new government take the oath before the King and attend the first Council of Ministers of this legislature.

The composition is as follows:

  • President of the Government: José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero
  • First Vice-President of the Government, Minister for the Presidency and Government Spokesperson: María Teresa Fernández de la Vega Sanz

The President of the Government accepts the resignation as Minister for Justice, of Mariano Fernández Bermejo, on 23 February 2009 and appoints Francisco Caamaño Domínguez to this post.

The Royal Decree confirming this appointment is published on 24 February in the Official State Gazette.

The new minister takes the oath before the King on the same day.

The cabinet is thus formed as follows:
