Seasonally-adjusted Social Security figures show 19,019,624 members in April

By activity, seasonally-adjusted enrolment increased in Construction (9,750), Industry (7,415) and Agriculture, Livestock and Fishing (1,746), while Services recorded 27,827 fewer workers.

The number of non-wage earners in seasonally-adjusted terms increased by 3,453, while the number of wage earners decreased by 11,260.

By sector, this month the increase of people employed in Fishing and aquaculture (1.54%), Collection and treatment of waste water (1.47%), Programming, consultancy and computer activities (1.25%), Activities related to employment (1.21%) and Advertising and market research (1.17%) stands out. Conversely, in seasonally-adjusted terms, Accommodation services (-9.53%), Maritime transport (-3.71%), Travel agencies and operators (-2.92%) and Air transport (-2.62%), among others, saw the number of people enrolled reduce.

Average membership

In April, the Social Security recorded and average of 19,055,298 members without the seasonal adjustment. This figure represents 134,396 more contributors than the March average (0.71%). Of these, 53.37% were men.

This month, all activities added members, especially Services, with 99,404 more workers. Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries (13,483), Construction (12,965) and Industry (8,544) also contributed to this.

Specifically, in the General Regime, the average monthly enrolment increased in April by 118,121 workers (0.76%) and stood at 15,699,775. The Special Agrarian System added 12,050, and Household increased by 977.

By sector, there were more people employed in most sectors this month. Particularly strong growth was seen in the Hotel and Catering sector, with 40,548 more members (4.12%). This was followed by Construction (1.23% and 10,734 more workers) and Agriculture, Livestock and Fishing with a growth of 1.01% (757 more people employed).

In April, only three sectors lost members: Financial and Insurance Activities (-0.22% and 713 fewer workers), Activities of extraterritorial organisations and bodies, which lost seven workers (-0.21%), and Health Care Activities, which lost 0.04% or 611 members.

The Self-Employed Scheme, meanwhile, saw an average of 3,292,932 members in April, 15,431 more than the previous month (0.47% more). The Sea Scheme accounted for 61,530 employed people, 858 more (1.41%) and the Coal Scheme saw an average of 1,061 members, 14 fewer than in March.

In April, all autonomous communities added members, led by the Balearic Islands (2.75%), the Region of Murcia (1.44%), Navarre (1.17%) and Extremadura (1.15%).

In the last year, 596,631 members have returned - an increase of 3.23% - after the impact of the pandemic. The significant effect of COVID on the labour market in April 2020 should be taken into account.
