Pedro Sánchez has conveyed to the President of Ecuador Spain's support for the country's democratic institutions, a support that he had already expressed in a telephone call on 11 January, following the escalation of violence in the country. The President of the Government expressed to President Noboa Spain's willingness to strengthen security relations, both bilaterally and in the framework of cooperation with the EU.

President Sánchez has once again expressed the strongest condemnation of the violent acts of criminal groups. He also conveyed solidarity with the victims and their families, and with all the people of Ecuador.

During their meeting, the two leaders also discussed common challenges, such as climate change and the green transition, with renewable energy as a driver to attract foreign investment in both countries.

In this regard, the President of the Government highlighted the results of the EU-CELAC Summit held in Brussels, one of the major milestones of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the EU, which committed an important investment package within the framework of the European Commission's Global Gateway plan.

They also discussed Ecuador's participation as a guest country at the International Tourism Fair. The two leaders agreed that the two countries stand out internationally for their great tourist attraction, and that they can find synergies to collaborate on joint initiatives to promote environmentally sustainable and quality tourism.

The president thanked Ecuador for its commitment to the Ibero-American Summit system and expressed Spain's support for making progress on the thematic axes for the next meeting: "Innovation, inclusion and sustainability".
