The head of the Executive has returned to Andalusia to see first-hand the evolution of the storm and its consequences in affected areas of the provinces of Granada and Jaén. There, he announced that "the Government of Spain will activate all mechanisms to gather information, determine the extent of the damage, and be able to address the reconstruction".

Pedro Sánchez added that the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, will also visit the area to assess the scale of the disaster and reiterated that the First Vice-President of the Government of Spain and Minister for Finance, María Jesús Montero, is leading the effort to provide a response to those affected.

In this regard, the president has assured the irrigation community and small farmers that they will receive prompt assistance from the General State Administration to guarantee them certainty and security.

Response team

During his address to the media, Pedro Sánchez thanked the affected municipalities, the Government Delegation, and the Regional Government of Andalusia for their response and collaborative work in protecting the lives of residents and offering a perspective for recovery and reconstruction in the face of the damage caused by the storms. "I believe that the collaborative response we are all undertaking is very important", he emphasised.

The president also advocated for the "major national agreement" that Spain needs for a joint response, from an institutional, economic, and social perspective, "to a climate reality that is clearly different" from what we have experienced until now. "It is important that we are united in our assessment and in anticipating the responses we can provide", he stressed.

Pedro Sánchez has asked citizens to exercise extreme caution and prudence when travelling until the storms subside, and to stay informed through emergency services, public service announcements, and verified media outlets to "avoid misinformation and rumours that often circulate on social media".

On this day in Andalusia, the President of the Government of Spain is accompanied by the First Vice-President of the Government of Spain and Minister for Finance, María Jesús Montero, and by the Government Delegate in Andalusia, Pedro Fernández.
