The President of the Government of Spain continues his round of contacts with international leaders to address the situation in the Middle East. Today he held telephone talks with the Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority, Mohamed Mustafa, and with the President of the United Arab Emirates, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed.

These talks are part of a round of contacts being made by the president of the Government of Spain as a sign of his commitment to finding a political solution to the Middle East conflict. With all of them, he has shared the need to offer a horizon of peace, security and prosperity to the region through the implementation of the two-state solution, which implies the recognition of Palestine as a state.

These talks follow Pedro Sánchez's trip to Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, as well as his contacts with European leaders.

The president of the Government of Spain congratulated Prime Minister Mustafa on his appointment and on the formation of a new Government, and reiterated the solidarity and support of the Spanish people for the Palestinian people. He also reiterated Spain's commitment and determination to recognise the State of Palestine and to support Palestine's entry as a full member state of the United Nations.

During his dialogue with President Mohamed bin Zayed, President Pedro Sánchez highlighted the United Arab Emirates' efforts to achieve regional peace and stability. The two leaders also discussed the high risk of escalation and the need to deliver sufficient humanitarian aid to alleviate the catastrophe in Gaza.

In both talks, Pedro Sánchez emphasised the urgency of reaching an immediate ceasefire and the need to set in motion a political process leading to the materialisation of the two-state solution.
