The meeting, the fourth at the highest level between the government and Airbus management since 2020, was attended by the Minister for Defence, Margarita Robles, the Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, and the Minister for Science, Diana Morant, as well as the Secretary General for Economic Affairs and G20, Manuel de la Rocha, and the Director of the National Security Department, Miguel Ángel Ballesteros. Among the senior executives accompanying the company's CEO were the president of Airbus Spain, Alberto Gutiérrez, and the independent non-executive director, Amparo Moraleda.

During the meeting, the President of the Government and the Airbus CEO discussed the need for the company to increase the industrial workload in Spain, and for greater investment in R&D&i and our country's increased participation in space programmes. In this regard, Pedro Sanchez highlighted the work of the executive to support Airbus, both in its sales abroad and in R&D&i. With regard to the space sector, he underlined this commitment, expressed through recent measures such as the increase in the Spanish contribution to the European Space Agency and the boost provided by the creation of the Spanish Space Agency.

The chief executive highlighted the government's support for this sector in the worst moments of the pandemic, underlining the strategic nature of Airbus for our country. At present, there are no Airbus workers in an ERTE situation, and the company has recently announced the creation of 1,000 new jobs in Spain by the end of 2023.

This very morning, Pedro Sánchez took part in the celebration of the centenary of the creation of Construcciones Aeronáuticas (CASA), a company integrated in the Airbus Group, presided over by H.M. the King of Spain. The event included a visit to the new Step-2 space facility at the Getafe (Madrid) plant, a cutting-edge infrastructure for the manufacture of components for launchers and launch vehicles.
