Sánchez and Macron speak on the phone to discuss the NATO summit in Spain

At the Summit, the member states of the Atlantic Alliance will approve the new Strategic Concept for the next 10 years.

This is Macron's first official communication with a head of State or Government since France took over the rotating presidency of the EU. President Pedro Sánchez wished him well during this rotating six-month term and stressed the need to strengthen the transatlantic link between the EU and NATO in order to face global threats. Sánchez also expressed Spain's support for continuing to work to strengthen the common security and defence policy. In particular, the necessary impetus for the EU Strategic Compass, as well as progress on the EU Migration Pact.
