The leaders met to coordinate positions and agreed to highlight that the European Union should show clear leadership to motivate other countries to make progress on their targets and step up pressure on those that do not plan to increase their commitments.
The aim of this European leadership is to mobilise those countries attending the Conference to raise the level of global ambition in 2020, particularly in terms of decarbonisation. They also took the opportunity of the meeting to address this matter with a view to December's European Council.
After the meeting, the Acting President of the Government held two bilateral meetings, one with the French Prime Minister, Eduard Phillippe, and the other with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres.
