Total spending by international tourists up to July stood at 76.074 billion euros, which represents an increase of 7.2% compared to the same period in 2024, according to data published by the National Statistics Institute (INE).
In terms of the number of international tourists arriving in Spain in these first seven months of 2025, the figure exceeds 55.5 million, with a growth of 4.1% compared to the same period of the previous year.
These figures reflect the continuing upward trend in international visitor spending over arrivals, the growth of which has moderated in the last three months.
In the first seven months of 2025, the United Kingdom was the country with the highest cumulative expenditure (17.6% of the total), followed by Germany (11.7%) and France (8.1%). On the other hand, the autonomous communities with the highest accumulated expenditure are the Canary Islands (18.5% of the total), Catalonia (18.2%) and the Balearic Islands (15.3%).
In terms of visitors, the main countries of origin in the first seven months of the year were the United Kingdom (with almost 11 million and an increase of 4.3% compared to the same period in 2024); France (with more than 7.1 million and an increase of 1.7%), and Germany (with more than 6.9 million and an increase of 1.6%).
The main destinations in the year to date are Catalonia (11.6 million tourists and an increase of 1.1%); the Canary Islands (9.1 million and an increase of 4.3%) and the Balearic Islands (9 million and an increase of 3.2%).
The increase in spending, 4.5 points higher than the increase in the number of tourists
In July, the increase in spending by international tourists was 4.5 points higher than the increase in the number of foreign visitors. Specifically, in that month Spain received 11 million international tourists, who generated a total expenditure of more than 16.452 billion euros. Compared to the same month last year, visitor arrivals increased by 1.6%, while total expenditure grew by 6.1%.
During this month, each tourist spent an average of 1,493 euros, which represents an increase of 4.4% compared to July of the previous year. Average daily visitor expenditure stood at 210 euros, a year-on-year increase of 6.9%.
On the other hand, the length of stay of the majority of tourists was four to seven nights, with almost 5.3 million and an annual increase of 1.7%.
In July, the United Kingdom continued to be the leading country of origin for visitors, with more than 2 million visitors who left 2.902 billion euros in Spain.
This was followed by tourists from France, with 1.5 million visitors and an expenditure of 1.465 billion euros; Germany, with 1.1 million tourists and an expenditure of 1.575 billion euros; and the United States, with more than half a million visitors who generated an expenditure of 1.174 billion euros.
Balearic Islands, top destination in July
In terms of autonomous communities, the Balearic Islands was the main destination for international tourists in July, with 2,566,441 visitors in this month and a year-on-year growth of 1%.
Catalonia received a total of 2,352,229 visitors (-1.2%); Andalusia, 1,540,778 (+5.5%); Valencia, 1,494,369 (+1.4%); the Canary Islands, 1,231,090 (+6%); and Madrid, 719,196 (-3.1%). The rest of the Autonomous Communities received a total of 1,119,149 foreign travellers in July, with a growth of 2.3% compared to the same month in 2024.
