Spending by international tourists in Spain exceeds 59.6 billion euros up to June, 7.5% more than a year ago

The total expenditure of international tourists up to June 2025 stood at 59,622 million euros, an increase of 7.5% compared to the same period in 2024, according to data published by the National Statistics Institute.
In terms of the number of international tourists arriving in Spain in the first six months of the year, the figure was over 44.5 million, an increase of 4.7% compared to the same period last year.
These figures reflect the continuing upward trend in international visitor spending over arrivals, the growth of which has moderated in the last two months.
In the first six months of 2025, the United Kingdom was the country with the highest cumulative expenditure (17.6% of the total), followed by Germany (12.3%) and France (7.9%). On the other hand, the autonomous communities with the highest cumulative expenditure are the Canary Islands (19.9% of the total), Catalonia (17.7%) and the Community of Madrid (15.3%).
In terms of visitors, the main countries of origin in the first half of the year were the United Kingdom (with more than 8.9 million and an increase of 5.2%), Germany (with more than 5.7 million, an increase of 3%) and France (with almost 5.6 million and an increase of 3.1%).
Foreign tourism and spending continue to rise in June
Specifically, in June, Spain received nearly 9.5 million international tourists, who generated a total expenditure of more than 13.035 billion euros. Compared to the same month last year, arrivals increased by 1.9% and total expenditure grew by 5.5%.
During this month, each tourist spent an average of 1,376 euros, which represents an increase of 3.5% over the previous year. Average daily visitor expenditure stood at 209 euros, a year-on-year increase of 6.5%.
On the other hand, the length of stay of the majority of tourists was four to seven nights, with almost 4.8 million and an annual increase of 2.4%.
The Portuguese market continues to grow
In June, the United Kingdom was the leading country of origin of visitors, with 2.1 million visitors, a figure very similar to that of the same month last year. In terms of spending at destination, UK citizens spent 2.604 billion euros in Spain in June, 4.9% more than in the same month in 2024.
In second place is Germany, with 1,224,376 tourists arriving in June, an increase of 7.8% year-on-year. Spending by German tourists also grew, reaching 1.499 billion euros, which represents an increase of 9.2% compared to the same month of the previous year.
The number of visitors from France fell by 0.5% compared to June 2024, with 1,005,972 international tourists. However, expenditure increased by 12.9% over the previous year, with a total of 939 million euros.
This month, the growth of Portugal is once again noteworthy, with visitor numbers up by 11.6% year-on-year with a total of 327,289 tourists from this country in June.
Balearic Islands, top destination in June
In terms of autonomous communities, the Balearic Islands was the main destination for tourists in June, with 23.9% of the total. In second and third places were Catalonia (21.1%) and Andalusia (15%).
The Balearic Islands received 3% more tourists than in 2024, with 2,262,589 visitors this month. Catalonia received a total of 1,998,700 foreign tourists, 0.1% more than in June 2024. Andalusia is the region with the highest growth in visitor numbers in relative terms, up 4.4% and 1,425,522 travellers.
In terms of expenditure, the top destination autonomous communities with the greatest weight in tourist expenditure in June were the Balearic Islands (with 21.7% of the total), Catalonia (19.8%) and Andalusia (14.7%).
Spending by tourists increased by 2.9% year-on-year in the Balearic Islands, to 2.830 billion euros, by 1.9% in Catalonia, with 2.579 billion euros, and by 9.4% in Andalusia, with a total of 1.912 billion euros.
