The Government of Spain condemns the killing of more than a hundred civilians in northern Burkina Faso
News - 2021.6.6
Spain conveys its sincere condolences to the families of those killed, to the people of Burkina Faso and to its government, and its wish for a speedy recovery for the wounded.
Spain has recently been affected by the violence in Burkina Faso and expresses its solidarity with Faso as a sign of the common struggle against barbarism and respect for the most basic human rights such as life. It reaffirms its willingness to continue to cooperate with the Burkinabé authorities in various areas of interest to Burkina Faso and the stability of the Sahel.
As it did jointly with France, Germany and Italy after the vile murder of two Spanish journalists and an Irish environmentalist in April, the Government of Spain reiterates its commitment to support - within a cross-cutting strategy - combining security, governance, stabilisation and development. These killings once again underline the need for a complex approach that accompanies basic services, education and health in the integrity of the territory through close cooperation with the countries affected by the scourge of insecurity and with regional cooperation entities (G5, Coalition and Sahel Alliance among others).
