Spain has performed more than 23.4 million diagnostic tests since start of COVID-19 pandemic

In the last week, between 1 and 7 January, the regional governments have performed a total of 514,489 PCR tests, an average of 73,498 PCR tests a day.

In addition, from 1 to 7 January, the regional governments have performed a total of 287,578 antigen tests (41,082 a day on average). Including the PCR tests performed, this amounts to a total of 802,067 diagnostic tests over the course of the week, 114,581 a day. Accordingly, the number of diagnostic tests has increased by 4%, at a rate of 498.74 tests per 1,000 inhabitants.

New techniques are gradually being developed for the diagnosis of the infection caused by SARS-CoV-2, such as the rapid antigen tests that the Regional Health Departments are starting to introduce to manage the pandemic.
