DRIVING LICENCES

The UK exit from de EU with a Withdrawal Agreement implies that the provisions of EU law relating to driving licences remain in place until the end of the transition period, which will end on 31 December 2020.

As a result driving licences issued by the British authorities will entitle their holders to drive in our country up to that date. As of January 1, 2021, the general rules governing driving licences will apply, under which licences issued by British authorities will entitle holders to drive in Spain for six months following their entry into the country, or from the date on which they obtain legal residence.

People holding British licences who will remain resident in Spain after the end of the transition period are advised to redeem their driving licence for a Spanish permit before period ended on 31 December 2020. They must do so by asking for an appointment via this link.
