In the Government control session, Pedro Sánchez insisted that the Executive maintains its commitment to "addressing both the urgent and the important." That is to say, addressing immediate difficulties, such as the ratification of the Royal Decree-Laws to address the effects of the war in Iran, without abandoning strategic objectives such as promoting decarbonisation, "as no other government in the history of democracy has done," which has allowed for the deployment of renewable energies and "to have electricity prices 30% cheaper than the European average."

The President of the Government of Spain cited these figures in response to a question from Mertxe Aizpurua, member of the Euskal Herria Bildu Parliamentary Group, assuring her that the government has "the political will to finalise all the agreements" signed with the parliamentary groups that supported his investiture. As an example of fulfilling these commitments, the president recalled the recent approval by the Council of Ministers of the 2026-2030 State Housing Plan, which mobilises €7 billion in co-investment with the autonomous communities.

The president emphasised that the plan "not only focuses on construction and renovation, but also on protection, to prevent and prohibit social housing from falling prey to vulture funds."

The president also highlighted the approval of the bill to reduce the student-teacher ratio, a measure aimed at improving both teachers' working conditions and the quality of the public education system. In addition, he highlighted the strengthening of the Civil Protection system, with the aim of improving the response capacity to emergencies arising from climate change, such as floods or fires.

Protecting citizens from the effects of "illegal unilateral wars"

The head of the Executive also responded to questions posed by Míriam Nogueras, member of the Junts per Catalunya parliamentary group, regarding the situation in the country.

Pedro Sánchez asserted that "unilateral wars that violate international law" impoverish the population.

He explained that the government has responded to this reality with protective measures. "With €5 billion, we protected the affected sectors," stated Pedro Sánchez, who also mentioned the €2.5 billion tax cut "to boost decarbonisation and protect industries, households, businesses, and small self-employed workers."

"Migration is contributing to economic growth"

The President of the Government of Spain also referred in his response to the extraordinary regularisation process for migrants. Pedro Sánchez said he did not understand the criticism for "recognising the rights of those who live here, those who are contributing to the economic growth of our country."

For all these reasons, the head of the Executive indicated that the Government's intention for the future is to recognise rights and "make Catalonia and Spain better countries."

"Spain will have less public debt than the world average for the first time in 16 years"

In response to the leader of the Popular Parliamentary Group in the Lower House of Parliament, Alberto Núñez Feijoo, the head of the Executive cited various international institutions and figures who have commented on the economic situation of the country and the government's stance on the current global geopolitical situation.

"The International Monetary Fund recently stated, and I quote, that Spain will have less public debt than the world average, for the first time in 16 years," Pedro Sánchez recounted. "The Final Times: "Spain is a model to follow in withstanding the shocks from the war in Iran," the President of the Government of Spain continued, also recalling the words of former French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin, who alluded to Spain saving Europe's honour by pointing out a violation of international law in Gaza.
