The head of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, stressed the importance of coordination among the parties involved and European countries as part of the negotiation process, underscoring the "decisive moment for European security and for the stability of the rules-based international order".
The president also conveyed Spain's willingness to participate in the development of the security guarantee scheme created under the framework of the Coalition of the Willing to ensure peace and the well-being of the civilian population. He further emphasised Spain's commitment to playing a significant role in reconstruction efforts, highlighting the implementation of the so-called "Prosperity Package" for Ukraine, which includes aid, loans, incentives, and support mechanisms to rebuild its infrastructure and revitalise its economy. The European Commission is currently working on this package.
Pedro Sánchez underscored Spain's support for Ukraine's accession to the European Union and the need for a stronger stance on this issue. He affirmed this commitment within "a much broader geopolitical vision", as well as with Europe, and with a vision that "defends the international order based on the observance of fair rules".
Defending the rules-based international order, President Sánchez reiterated Spain's unwavering condemnation of Russia's aggression against Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty and stressed the importance of multilateral cooperation in achieving solutions.
