The President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, has taken part in the seventh summit of the European Political Community (EPC), a high-level forum that provides a coordination platform for the countries of the entire European continent, except Russia and Belarus, in the context of Russia's aggression against Ukraine. In addition to attending the plenary, the President of the Government took part in the round table "Security and resilience: traditional and new threats".

In it, Pedro Sánchez underlined Spain's solidarity with the continent's eastern and northern flanks, those most threatened by Russian aggression, and highlighted the growing importance of challenges such as disinformation and the climate emergency.

On disinformation, as an example he pointed to Russian interference in the recent elections in Moldova, calling for greater coordination with neighbouring EU states to address this challenge.

On climate insecurity, he advocated strengthening European emergency and recovery mechanisms. In the framework of the meeting, Spain agreed to join the European Coalition against Drugs, an EPC platform that will collaborate with other European institutions to tackle drug trafficking on the continent, promoting pragmatic and effective initiatives.

The objectives of this platform include improving coordination to combat maritime and port drug trafficking by sharing operational data among participating countries, strengthening financial monitoring systems to detect illicit money flows accompanying drug trafficking, and adopting a comprehensive approach including health initiatives for the prevention, treatment and mitigation of drug-related harm.
