Heineken Spain's solar thermal plant, Seville
This visit is a clear demonstration of the Government's commitment to the decarbonisation of the economy by means of promoting renewable energies and in line with the objective of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The acting head of the executive, accompanied by the Government delegate in Andalusia, Pedro Fernández Peñalver, visited the facilities of the solar thermal plant, which will reduce the Seville factory's fossil gas consumption by more than 60% and will reduce Heineken Spain's carbon footprint by almost 7,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.
The brewery project has meant an investment of €21 million and reflects the success of the public-private partnership model promoted by the Government, which in this case has involved the participation of Engie Spain, Heineken Spain and all levels of the public administration. The plant has received a €13.3 million grant from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the IDAE (Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving).
In line with European decarbonisation targets, the company is committed to becoming the first Spanish brewery with zero net emissions by 2025, five years ahead of the global decarbonisation commitment. This solar thermal plant will provide Heineken Spain with greater energy autonomy for its own self-consumption in the manufacturing and packaging processes.
