Mariano Rajoy receives President of the Regional Government of the Balearic Islands, Francina Armengol, at Moncloa Palace

The President of the Government of Spain, Mariano Rajoy, has begun a series of meetings that he intends to hold with the presidents of the regional governments resulting from the regional elections held on 24 May by meeting with the President of the Regional Government of the Balearic Islands, Francina Armengol.

During the press briefing that followed her meeting with Mariano Rajoy, Francina Armengol (a member of the PSIB-PSOE party) expressed satisfaction with the climate of good political will that surrounded what she described as a long meeting and the significant agreements the two leaders were able to reach.

Among those agreements, she mentioned a commitment from President of the Government Rajoy to encourage a meeting of the bilateral commission set up between the two governments to discuss the regional financing received by the Balearic Islands and the possibility of setting a four-year extension for execution of the so-called statutory funds, with the resumption of projects that were suspended and the defining of new investments.
