Pedro Sánchez calls for greater ambition in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030

The President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, has taken part in a discussion on measures to address the funding gap for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to make progress on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, alongside the UN Deputy Secretary-General, Amina Mohamed, and the Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Mottley.

President Pedro Sánchez stated that the next four years offer sufficient scope to accelerate implementation and renew ambition with regard to the targets agreed in 2015. In politics, he noted, "four years is an eternity" and he argued that the 2030 Agenda is not the "agenda of the elite" but the "agenda of the people".

During his speech, Pedro Sánchez highlighted the achievements of the Financing for Development Conference held in Seville, which saw the launch of more than 100 initiatives aimed at improving the financing mechanisms for the SDGs.
