The President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, during the virtual meeting of the leaders of the group of countries supporting Ukraine

The meeting took place two days before the US-Russia summit on 15 August in Alaska, which will bring together Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.

The meeting served to show solidarity with Ukraine once again and to reiterate our position on the peace process ahead of the Alaska summit. On the way forward for peace in Ukraine, leaders, including President Pedro Sánchez, set out their position in a joint communiqué of the European Council, which was made public yesterday. Spain gives top priority to European unity at such critical times as the present.
