The presentation of the Collar of the Royal and Distinguished Spanish Order of Carlos III began with the following speech by the acting chief executive:
"Your Majesties, Your Royal Highnesses, allow me to express on behalf of the Government of Spain our warmest congratulations on the commitment you have just assumed as Crown Princess of Spain. The oath or pledge is a way for people to establish a secure future in a world full of uncertainties. And the Constitution is a promise made by our parents. Today, you have renewed and cemented the future of the promise on which our coexistence is founded.
From the hand of the King, from your father, you are receiving the Order of Carlos III, the most important and highest civilian recognition in our country. And it is an honour for the Government of Spain to bestow this decoration on such a significant day in the life of Your Highness and in the history of Spain.
In this democratic, free and modern Spain, the future is written with every action and decision we take. And today, that future is enriched by the role Your Highness will now begin to play. The institutions of a democracy gain their stature not only from their history, but also from their capacity to serve the common good, a precept which, I am sure, will guide your path.
Let this day be remembered as a solemn moment in the continuity of our institutions. And from the Government of Spain, we extend our heartfelt wishes for a life of prosperity and wisdom in your new responsibility as Crown Princess. You have, Your Highness, the loyalty, respect and affection of the Government of this country.
Thank you very much".
