The acting chief executive highlighted the global impact this instrument has on the promotion of sustainable strategic investments that the EU deploys in third countries. President Sánchez also emphasised that the Global Gateway Forum aims to convey Europe's image and values, essentially in three areas.

First, by firmly aligning itself with the UN 2030 Agenda and the Paris Agreement in the fight against climate change. Second, by building partnerships with the countries of the Global South and their regional multilateral organisations. And last, by exporting democratic values and European standards on social, labour, gender, good governance and transparency. "The Global Gateway Forum is set to become one of the EU's major hallmarks in its external action," he said.

He also recalled the involvement of the Government of Spain in this initiative during the presidency of the Council of the EU, highlighting the presentation of the EU-LAC Global Gateway Investment Agenda, which took place in the framework of the 3rd EU-CELAC Summit last July, and the identification of 130 strategic investment projects in Latin America and the Caribbean. "This translates into a commitment to mobilise investment from Europe to the tune of €45 billion. Spain will contribute €9.4", the president stressed.

Last, he highlighted challenges such as the ecological and digital transitions, and the challenge of moving towards fair growth. In this regard, Pedro Sánchez assured that the Government of Spain is working to ensure that the Global Gateway investment portfolio includes actions in social sectors such as education, training, health and social protection.
