Seoul (Republic of Korea)

During his visit to the Cervantes Institute, the President of the Government of Spain highlighted the growing interest of Korean society in the culture, traditions and languages of Spain through gastronomy, music and audiovisual creations.

The opening of this new centre, approved by Royal Decree of the Council of Ministers on 15 November, will make it possible to expand the range of activities related to the teaching of Spanish and the promotion of Spanish culture, something that is currently offered by the Aula Cervantes at the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in Seoul.

The President of the Government of Spain reaffirmed that "We want language to be a real factor for economic growth and international competitiveness in such essential areas as artificial intelligence, translation, cultural dissemination, science and learning.

The Government of Spain - conscious of the potential of Spanish - will invest 1.1 billion euros in the "New Economy of Language" PERTE. This project, which is part of the 'NextGenerationEU' funds, seeks to take advantage of the potential of Spanish and other co-official languages.

After visiting the Cervantes Institute, the President of the Government of Spain closed the 14th edition of the Spain-Korea Tribune, an event organised by Casa Asia and the Korea Foundation. Sánchez stressed that this forum "exemplifies the crucial role of civil society and public diplomacy in the service of relations between two countries that share many interests and want to share even more in the future.

The Government of Spain sees the Indo-Pacific as an area with enormous economic dynamism, capacity for innovation, demographic weight and growing geopolitical relevance, and hopes to consolidate this area as one of Spain's preferred regions for action abroad.

"Now, more than ever, we need reliable partners with whom we share values and principles, to continue to build and defend a rules-based international order and an increasingly strong, effective and inclusive multilateralism. Spain and the Republic of Korea share this vision, and the Korean government is undoubtedly one of our main allies in East Asia", concluded the President of the Government of Spain.
