In this first bilateral meeting following the formation of the new Portuguese government, the leaders agreed on the importance of unity among European countries vis-à-vis Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Sánchez and Costa addressed bilateral relations, which transcend the classic framework, given the breadth and depth of the common agenda. They also discussed the items on the agenda of the European Council: Ukraine and sanctions on Russia, defence and energy.

The President of the Government of Spain reaffirmed that "Interconnections are a priority in the European context, but we need a real political and financial commitment from the EU.
