The meeting marks the beginning of the work to celebrate this event.

During the ceremony, Sánchez highlighted the importance of the Commission set up today, whose main objective is to promote, from today's perspective, the relevance of the painter from Malaga, through new reflections from different fields of cultural and social analysis. This initiative is part of the celebration of Picasso Year, which aims not only to commemorate, but also to deepen the legacy of the greatest universal artist of the 20th century.

The head of the Executive highlighted the internationalisation of this project, thanks to the commitment of the French government to institutionalise the celebration of Picasso Year in 2023; the decisive contribution of the Picasso family to give the event the most global dimension possible, and the importance of collaboration with public and private administrations, an area in which he referred to the projects that Radio Televisión Española is going to carry out with France Télévisions and the British BBC.
