President Sánchez reiterated Spain's commitment and solidarity with civil society to achieve a democratic future, his call for an end to the violence of the Lukashenko regime and the immediate release of those arbitrarily imprisoned, along with the establishment of penalties for serious human rights violations. Sánchez has shown his support for sanctions against Lukashenko and his regime, as agreed by the 27 heads of state and government.

During the conversation, Sánchez expressed his "deepest personal solidarity" to Tikhanovskaya as her husband, the activist Serguei Tikhanovski, has been imprisoned by the Belarusian regime since May 2020. Tikhanovskaya received the 2020 Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought in Brussels.
