President of the Government of Spain visits 'Don Bosco' Salesian School in Angola

‘Don Bosco’ Salesian School, Luanda (Angola), Thursday 8 April 2021

The President of the Government acknowledged the "commendable" educational work carried out by the Salesian priests in the country, which "perfectly symbolises the collaboration between Angola and Spain". There are no sounder pillars for the construction of prosperous societies than those of education", he said in a brief speech.

Pedro Sánchez toured the centre's facilities, attended an event with pupils in the school-yard and briefly visited the medical dispensary where he greeted its workers.

The construction of the 'Don Bosco' School was financed within the framework of the basic education and literacy programmes that the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (Spanish acronym: AECID) undertook in Portuguese-speaking African countries between 2001 and 2004 to support peacebuilding through education. The Salesians have been awarded the National Literacy Prize on several occasions, while their 'Don Bosco Method' to enhance literacy has become a benchmark for the Government of Angola.
