President of the Government of Spain attends swearing-in ceremony for Carolina Darias and Miquel Iceta as ministers

Zarzuela Palace, Madrid

The two new members of the Government of Spain were sworn in to their posts at a ceremony in the Audience Hall in front of a facsimile copy of the Spanish Constitution published by Parliament in 1980.

Besides the President of the Government, the ceremony was attended by the Minister for Justice, Juan Carlos Campo, who acted as Commissioner for Oaths.

The appointment of these new ministers was on Tuesday by the President of the Government, and they took their oaths of office before King Felipe VI of Spain on Wednesday following publication of their appointments in the Official State Gazette.

Taking office

After taking her oath, Carolina Darias travelled to the headquarters of the Ministry of Health, where she received the portfolio from her predecessor, Salvador Illa. In her inaugural speech, she stressed that her ministerial department will remain a forum for dialogue, understanding and cooperation.

In turn, Miquel Iceta received his portfolio from Carolina Darias, former Minister for Territorial Policy and the Public Function. At the event, which took place at the headquarters of this ministerial department, Miquel Iceta advocated a diverse and plural Spain that is strong in its unity.
