Pedro Sánchez underlined the importance for Spain of "the preservation of the allied unity" and stressed that "my government will continue working to turn this unity into reality". The Government of Spain is firmly committed to NATO, supporting peacekeeping and security through the regular deployment of troops well beyond our borders for the last 30 years.

In a joint press briefing, Pedro Sánchez and Jens Stoltenberg agreed on the need to achieve an agreement in the "complex scenario" of the Eastern Mediterranean. The President of the Government thanked the Secretary-General for his work on this matter "by keeping communication channels open among the allies, proposing mechanisms to avoid an escalation and preserving the principles of unity and solidarity". "Both NATO and the EU can and must contribute to this process. Spain is decisive in complying with its commitments and with holding talks with all parties so that the Mediterranean can be a sea of peace, cooperation and integration", underlined the President of the Government

The President of the Government insisted that "security risks have stopped being a threat for individual countries" and stressed that now they are a "collective threat for all of us", and hence we must "commit and forge a consensus" through reinforced and effective multilateralism.

Pedro Sánchez reiterated to Jens Stoltenberg the firm position of the Government of Spain regarding "cohesion and solidarity" and recalled that our country "is a responsible partner" and a firm believer in multilateralism as the best way to protect the interests and values of all NATO members. In fact, our presence on missions abroad is "the best example of our commitment to NATO".
