The aerospace sector is strategic for Spain which, as a founding country of the Airbus consortium, reaffirms its founding goals, particularly the generation of the industrial fabric and quality jobs, as well as the maintenance of technological capacities, particularly the design, certification, production and maintenance of a complete aeroplane.

The two parties agreed to implement a series of initiatives to strengthen the sector and its auxiliary industries, and are firmly convinced that the measures proposed will enable the current crisis to be addressed and minimise its impact on jobs, while helping preserve Spain's technological and industrial capacities. Airbus commits to seek formulas and solutions for those plants with a low workload, taking into account their location, through negotiations with social stakeholders. The meeting concluded with a joint statement.

The meeting was also attended by the Minister for Defence, Margarita Robles; the Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, and the Minister for Science and Innovation, Pedro Duque.
