Pedro Sánchez attends meeting of National Security Council

At the meeting, the government informed the King of the actions taken to combat the coronavirus epidemic in Spain and its consequences.

The Ministers for Health, Salvador Illa; for Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, José Luis Ábalos; for Defence, Margarita Robles; and for Home Affairs, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, who acted as competent delegate authorities during the state of emergency, presented their respective reports.

The four vice-presidents of the government also set out the measures adopted by their respective departments to tackle the pandemic. The First Vice-President of the Government and Minister for the Presidency, Parliamentary Relations and Democratic Memory, Carmen Calvo, reported on the activity of the Status Committee, tasked with monitoring the management of the health emergency after the state of emergency was decreed.

The Second Vice-President of the Government and Minister for Social Rights and 2030 Agenda, Pablo Iglesias, outlined the social measures approved. The Third Vice-President of the Government and Minister for Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, Nadia Calviño, outlined the economic measures taken.

The Fourth Vice-President of the Government and Minister for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera, outlined the de-escalation process. The Minister for Science and Innovation, Pedro Duque, took stock of the work under way to discover a vaccine against COVID-19, in which Spain is actively participating.

The meeting was also attended by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation. Arancha González Laya; the Minister for Justice, Juan Carlos Campo; the Minister for the Treasury and Government Spokesperson, María Jesús Montero, the Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism, Reyes Maroto; and the Minister for Territorial Policy and Public Function, Carolina Darias.

National Security Council

The National Security Council, in its role as Government Delegate Committee for National Security, is the body designated to assist the President of the Government in managing National Security Policy and the National Security System.
