"Unity saves lives and can save many companies and jobs", says Pedro Sánchez

During his appearance in the government control session in the Lower House of Parliament, the President of the Government defended his handling of the coronavirus crisis and advocated extending the state of emergency, and called for responsibility from the parliamentary groups in addressing the situation.

Pedro Sánchez asked the MP for the People's Parliamentary Group, Pablo Casado, to find reasons and arguments to promote unity rather than confrontation because defending public health and saving lives, companies and jobs is a State responsibility.

Pedro Sánchez claims that no territory will be left behind

The President of the Government stressed to the MP for Coalición Canaria, Ana Oramas, who asked him about a possible bailout plan for the Canary Islands, that the maxim of "no-one will be left behind" has governed the work of the government since the start of the crisis and is valid "for both individuals and for territories".

In this regard, he stated that the government is working, both at a national level and also through the European Union, to reactivate a "very important sector" such as tourism, which is fundamental for the economy of the Canary Islands. The aim, he claimed, is to respond "as soon as possible, and with all due guarantees, to the demand for international tourism, above all European tourism, so that inbound tourists can return to our beaches and coasts".

Pedro Sánchez thanked Ana Oramas for her support in extending the state of emergency, which he described as essential to maintain until "we can definitively move to the new normality".

Pedro Sánchez considered that the restriction on mobility benefits all of Spain, including the Canary Islands, as can be seen in the positive figures in the evolution of the pandemic and the fact that some of its islands have already moved to Phase 2 of the de-escalation.
