Moncloa Palace, Madrid

The President of the Government proposed to the parliamentary groups the creation of a Board for the Social and Economic Reconstruction of the country following the health crisis caused by COVID-19.

The aims of the Board will be the relaunch of the economy and the recovery of the activity of the productive fabric; the protection of vulnerable groups and those with the greatest difficulties in finding a job, to try and ensure that no-one is left behind; the rebuilding of the Welfare State and a strengthened health system; and seeking to achieve a coordinated and supportive response from the European Union.

The government stressed the need for inter-institutional dialogue that allows for the development of measures to be optimised around the country, and for social dialogue to include contributions from business owners and trade unions to this great agreement.

Pedro Sánchez thanked the parliamentary forces for their interest in forging an agreement to lay the foundations to rebuild the country and considered the proposal made by the President of the People' Party to form the Board in the Lower House of Parliament as a parliamentary committee to be positive.

The President of the Government met on Thursday with the parliamentary groups: the Confederal Group of Unidas Podemos-En Comú Podem-Galicia, Plural, Ciudadanos and Basque (EAJ-PNV). On Friday, he held meeting with the Republican groups, EH Bildu, the Mixed Group and the Socialist Group and on Monday with the People's Party Group.

Social and territorial dialogue

The President of the Government also met on Monday with the Managing Board of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP), after meeting on Sunday with the Presidents of the Autonomous Regions and Cities, to inform them of the third request to extend the state of emergency.

Pedro Sánchez thanked them for the work that local authorities have been performing during this lockdown, with a view to preventing poverty, helping the homeless, preventing gender-based violence and collaborating with victims of the pandemic. He also underlined the fundamental role they will play in the de-escalation process.

The President of the Government will hold a fortnightly meeting with the FEMP, which has unanimously expressed its interest in collaborating.
