Moncloa Palace, Madrid

The Acting President of the Government appeared at Moncloa Palace following his meeting with King Felipe VI at Zarzuela Palace, the final meeting in the round of consultations between the monarch and the representatives designated by the parliamentary forces to nominate a candidate to the Presidency of the Government.

"I expressed my willingness to His Majesty the King to accept this commission, which is once again a direct consequence of the majority mandate expressed by the Spanish people through the ballot box, in the general elections held on 10 November. I take on this commission with honour, with responsibility and with tremendous gratitude to the people of Spain", stressed Pedro Sánchez.

The Acting President of the Government added that if the Lower House places its confidence in him, then he will govern with progressive values and a desire to forge broad consensuses through dialogue with all political forces within the constitutional framework.

Pedro Sánchez reported that next week he will be in contact with all the parliamentary forces with a view to succeeding at the investiture session. He will also call the presidents of the regional governments and the President of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (Spanish acronym: FEMP) "to share my wish with all of them, which I believe is the wish of the majority of citizens in our country, to have a government in place as soon as possible that makes proposals and offers solutions".

The Acting President of the Government also stressed that Spain has no time to lose, since it now needs progress and transformations that require broad national agreements, as well as stability and certainty.
