Pedro Sánchez made an appearance at Moncloa Palace after closing off the round of consultations the King is holding with representatives of the political forces with parliamentary representation to propose a candidate to the Presidency of the Government. The monarch remarked that no force has the support necessary for the Lower House, as the case may be, to grant its confidence, which he has communicated to the Speaker of the Lower House, Meritxell Batet.

In his speech, the Acting President of the Government stated that it has not been possible to comply with the electoral mandate expressed by the Spanish people on 28 April. "I have tried this by every means possible, but they have made it impossible for us", said Pedro Sánchez, "and hence the country will return to the polling stations on 10 November".

"Spain does not need a government for an investiture; it needs a government for a full term of office", declared Pedro Sánchez, who advocated a stable, cohesive government that is capable of facing up to "the important and far-reaching challenges" that lie ahead for the country.
