"No expense will be spared on the efforts to rebuild the town of Lorca", says José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero

The President of the Government, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, expressed his condolences for the families of the eight people killed by the earthquake in Lorca and wished a speedy recovery to those injured during the two seismic events experienced in the Region of Murcia on Wednesday.
During an institutional statement in the Lower House of Parliament, the President of the Government announced that the Council of Ministers on Friday, 13 May, will assess and approve the necessary steps to:
• Coordinate the reconstruction work in Lorca with the Region of Murcia and the Town Council of Lorca;
• Make the resources needed for reconstruction available to the ministries.
José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero also announced that he will travel to Lorca on Friday afternoon to check on the deployment of resources and inform the President of the Regional Government of Murcia and the Mayor of Lorca in person about the resources approved by the Council of Ministers.
The President of the Government stressed that "every effort will be made to rebuild the town of Lorca" and conveyed a message of "calm and support" to its population.
The President of the Government stated that every step has been taken "as quickly as possible" since yesterday afternoon to deal with the consequences of the two earthquakes in coordination with the Region of Murcia and the Town Council of Lorca. He also said that 800 officers from the Military Emergency Unit (Spanish acronym: UME), the National Police Force and the Civil Guard are already on the scene. 370 army tents, 140 UME vehicles and a field hospital have also been deployed.
The President of the Government conveyed a message of "calm and support" to the people of Lorca and said that the priority right now is to provide assistance to the "extremely high" number of people displaced from their homes, who are currently receiving help.
