Reports from Government Delegations indicate that the solar eclipse viewing proceeded smoothly and without significant incidents

The total solar eclipse on 12 August proceeded normally in Spain without significant incidents, despite the extraordinary turnout recorded in many areas and the substantial increase in travel to key viewing locations.

Minister Ángel Víctor Torres noted that territorial reports submitted by the Government Delegations - which fall under his department's jurisdiction - demonstrate that "public services maintained their operational capacity across all territories. This included "locations where the highest turnout was recorded", such as coastal areas, viewpoints, parks, high-altitude spots and other sites previously identified for viewing.

Torres acknowledged the territorial and inter-agency coordination, highlighting that "the exemplary behaviour of the public and widespread adherence to rules and instructions were key factors in the smooth running of the day".

The special measures put in place by the Government, in coordination with the regional governments and local bodies, made it possible to anticipate potential risk scenarios, strengthen the presence of security and emergency services, ensure a rapid response to to situations that arose, and effectively manage crowds and traffic.

Minor incidents

The high levels of travel associated with the eclipse were the subject of specific monitoring. Particularly in coastal areas, there were some isolated delays or access restrictions, which were managed by the traffic and security teams, after which normal conditions were restored.

Despite these localised traffic disruptions and larger-than-expected crowds in some areas, emergency services and State law enforcement forces and agencies had the necessary resources to intervene and maintain safety.

Minor incidents have been recorded, such as the isolated clearing of small gatherings in unauthorised areas, evacuations in mountain zones and scattered requests for medical assistance. In Cantabria, a fire at one of the observation posts (Linares de Liencres) was quickly brought under control, whilst in the Balearic Islands, action was taken to tackle two fires on separate vessels.
