Unemployment fell by 28,739 in June, bringing the total below 2.3 million for the first time since January 2008

The number of unemployed people registered in the offices of the Public State Employment Service (SEPE) at the end of June fell by 28,739 people in relation to the previous month (-1.24%). With respect to June 2025, unemployment fell by 113,981 people (-4.74%).
Total registered unemployment stood at 2,291,982 people. It had not fallen below 2.3 million since January 2008.

Unemployment by economic sector
By economic sector compared to May, registered unemployment fell in Services by 28,498 people (-1.69%), in Industry by 2,829 people (-1.57%), in Construction by 1,326 people (-0.83%) and in Agriculture by 384 people (-0.54%).

The number of people in the 'Never Previously Employed' group has increased by 4,298 (1.93%).
Unemployment by sex and age
Unemployment amongst women fell by 15,801 (-1.13%) in June compared with May.

The total number of unemployed women in June stood at 1,388,309. It had not fallen below 1.4 million since August 2008.

The number of unemployed men stood at 903,673, after decreasing by 12,938 (-1.41%).
In year-on-year terms, female unemployment fell by 72,575 (-4.97%) and male unemployment by 41,406 (-4.38%).
As for young people under the age of 25, the figures are down by 5,155 (-3.13%) compared with May.

The total stands at 159,800, the lowest figure in the historical series.
Unemployment by autonomous community
Registered unemployment fell in 11 Autonomous Communities in June. The biggest falls in absolute numbers were in Andalusia (-11,597), Galicia (-3,587) and Castile and León (-2.895).

Numbers have risen in the remaining six regions, led by the Region of Murcia (739), the Basque Country (479) and the Balearic Islands (100).
New contracts
The total number of contracts registered in June was 1,649,394.
Of this total, 683,861 employment contracts are permanent. They represent 41.46% of all contracts. This represents an increase of 96,163 (16.36%) over the same period the previous year.

Unemployment benefits in May
There were 1,686,936 beneficiaries at the end of the month.
The coverage of the unemployment protection system in May 2026 was 78%. This is the highest figure for May since 2010.

The average monthly investment per beneficiary, not including the agricultural subsidy of Andalusia and Extremadura, in May 2026 was €1,171.8, which represents an increase over the same month of the previous year of €37.8 euros (3.3%).
Total investment in May 2026 amounted to €1.9346 billion.
