The Government of Spain, through the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities in collaboration with the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), has launched www.trioeclipses.es, the official website for the Trio of Eclipses, with the aim of providing accurate information to the public and ensuring safety, accessibility, and territorial preparedness for a phenomenon that will mobilise millions of people in our country.
The official website www.trioeclipses.es, designed as the reference portal for the public, the media, the scientific community, and collaborating organisations, offers useful information for planning trips, consulting transportation recommendations, discovering top destinations, and finding out what to see in each area.
Spain will be the location of three consecutive solar eclipses: on 12 August 2026, 2 August 2027, and 26 January 2028. Two of them will be total eclipses, and one will be annular. Spain will be the only country in the world able to fully observe the first one, along with Iceland and Greenland.
Sections of the website
From the homepage, users can access sections dedicated to each eclipse, explaining what the phenomenon will be like, when it will occur, and from which areas of Spain it will be visible.
The main menu also includes sections with informative content about what an eclipse is and its significance. It also includes recommendations for safe viewing, information on eye protection, the use of optical instruments, and guidelines on prevention and risks.
Furthermore, the website has an Outreach section that brings together educational activities and resources, the content of which has been developed by the Scientific and Advisory Committee for the Trio of Eclipses in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA).
Also noteworthy is the Observation Points section, featuring an interactive map where you can find official locations from which to enjoy the phenomenon, provided by the autonomous communities.
Finally, you can consult the Trajectory Centre, which displays technical maps showing the areas of totality and annularity for each eclipse, prepared by the National Geographic Institute.
Official social media profiles of the Trio of Eclipses
Coinciding with the website launch, the official social media profiles of the Trio of Eclipses have also been activated on X, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and LinkedIn. These channels will allow for agile, direct, and accessible dissemination, as well as immediate information on news, resources, activities, safety alerts, and regional updates.
Both the development of the website and the management of social media profiles will be handled by FECYT, which coordinates the Scientific Outreach Working Group of the Interministerial Commission for the preparation, organisation, and coordination of activities related to the Trio of Eclipses, together with the Scientific and Advisory Commission for the Trio of Eclipses, composed of experts in this field.
The Interministerial Commission for the Trio of Eclipses
The Interministerial Commission for the Trio of Eclipses is attached to the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities as a collegiate body and is chaired by the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Universities, Juan Cruz Cigudosa. Along with the Ministry of Science, it is co-chaired by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, as both ministries hold the National Astronomy Commission.
Also involved are the Ministries of Defence; Finance; Home Affairs; Education, Vocational Training and Sport; Industry and Tourism; Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory; Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge; Culture; Economy, Trade and Business; Health and Social Rights, Consumer Affairs and 2030 Agenda. In addition, the National Astronomical Observatory, the Canary Islands Institute of Astrophysics, and the Institute of Astrophysics of Andalusia participate.
This Commission is responsible for planning and coordinating, within the scope of the General State Administration's powers, the actions aimed at guaranteeing public safety during eclipses.
