"NATO can count on Spain," Robles said emphatically during her visit to NATO Headquarters in Naples, where nearly 80 Spaniards work on a variety of operational tasks to preserve peace and security in member countries.

The Deputy Commander, Admiral Stuart B. Munch, who also applauded the Spanish capabilities deployed in international missions and as part of the Baltic Air Police, to mention just a few examples, expressed his gratitude for the Spanish contribution, for its professionalism and the great role it has.

The minister said that "there are no debates or speeches that can overshadow Spain's commitment and reliability in terms of NATO, because our commitment is robust".

Robles insisted that "we have an enviable Armed Forces, with a preparation and seriousness that are praised wherever they go, and whose work serves as an example and model for other countries".

Ongoing missions

There are 72 Spanish military personnel currently stationed at NATO Headquarters Naples, plus four civilians. Its mission, together with other international troops, is to prepare for, plan and conduct operations aimed at maintaining the peace, security and territorial integrity of Alliance member country's within or outside its SACEUR (Supreme Allied Commander Europe) area of responsibility.

Since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine, JFC Naples has been the coordinating authority for surveillance in its area of responsibility, including 'Neptune Strike'. It is also tasked with NATO's mission in Iraq, peacekeeping in Kosovo (KFOR) and supporting the protection of Romanian airspace (Southern Shield).
