Registered unemployment fell in June by 48,920 people in all sectors, communities and age groups

The number of unemployed people registered in the offices of the Public State Employment Service (SEPE) at the end of June fell by 48,920 people in relation to the previous month (-2%).

Registered unemployment thereby stands at 2,405,963 people, the lowest figure since June 2008, 17 years ago.

Compared with June 2024, unemployment fell by 155,104 people (-6.06%), a greater reduction than that recorded last year and three times the monthly rate of decline.

Also in seasonally adjusted terms, 16,834 fewer people were recorded.

Unemployment by economic sector

Registered unemployment fell in all economic sectors in June, with Services being the sector with the sharpest reduction, with 38,253 people less (-2.16%), followed by Industry, with 4,589 less (-2.41%), Construction, with 3,029 less (-1.68%), and Agriculture, with 218 less (-0.28%). Likewise, in the group Without Previous Employment, a decrease of 2,831 people (-1.22%) was recorded.

Unemployment by sex and age

Female unemployment fell in June by 25,537 women (-1.72%) compared to the previous month, leaving the total number of unemployed women at 1,460,884. This is the lowest figure since 2008 for a month of June.

Compared to the same month a year ago, there are now 85,320 fewer women registered as unemployed, a reduction that is greater than that registered among men, with 69,784 fewer unemployed.

For the second consecutive month, male unemployment remains below the threshold of one million people and stands at 945,079 unemployed people, after falling by 23,383 people (-2.41%).

Furthermore, the registration of young people under 25 years of age in the SEPE offices experienced a new decrease in June, with 4,296 fewer people (-2.51%), standing at 166,707 young people, the lowest level registered in the whole historical series.

The number of registered people aged 52 and over fell by 12,651 in June to 1,019,525. In the last year, there has been a decrease of 44,578 people in this group.

Unemployment by autonomous community

The total number of people out of work fell in all the autonomous communities. Andalusia (-6,974 people), Madrid (-6,571) and Castile and Leon (-4,840) are the three regions with the largest absolute decreases in June compared to the previous month.

Contracts signed

The total number of new contracts registered in June was 1,496,673, 8.46% more than in May. Of these, 587,653 were permanent, representing 39.26% of the total.

The new paradigm of open-ended contracts initiated after the labour reform takes hold.

Unemployment benefits in May

There were 1,455,261 existing beneficiaries at the end of the month. The average monthly amount per beneficiary in May, not including the agricultural subsidy in Andalusia and Extremadura, was €1,323.5, representing an increase of €256.1 (24%) over the same month of the previous year.

The coverage rate of the unemployment protection system in May this year was 74.4%, 7.2% higher than a year ago.

Total investment in May amounted to just over €1.87 billion.
