The Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, has met in Paris with the Director-General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay, to sign the agreement that lays the foundations for Barcelona to host the World Conference on Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Mondiacult) from 29 September to 1 October 2025.

Mondiacult is the leading international meeting on cultural policy, bringing together the Ministers of Culture of UNESCO's 194 Member States to define the global agenda in which culture is placed at the heart of the Global Development Agenda.

"By hosting Mondiacult 2025, Spain reaffirms its commitment to multilateralism and its support for UNESCO and the values it represents," said Minister Albares. In fact, Spain has proposed two specific areas of interest for the conference: culture for peace and the relationship between artificial intelligence and culture.

Albares also recalled that Foreign Affairs will play a prominent role in Mondiacult 2025 with the co-organisation of two conferences prior to the Conference, one with the Organisation of Ibero-American States (OEI), on culture for peace; and another with the SEGIB, on financing culture.

Foreign Affairs has also scheduled four fringe events, one of which will be dedicated to the Culture, Peace and Resilience cluster in Lviv, which was inaugurated in January. AECID's new culture and development strategy, which reinforces Spanish Cooperation's commitment to the promotion of people's cultural rights, will also be presented. Finally, there will be two events to present the results of the two previous days mentioned above.
