Minister for Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres, visits Catarroja (Valencia)
The €7.4 billion implemented by the Government of Spain for the areas affected by the DANA constitute 90% of the funds allocated by all administrations. This was stated by the minister, Ángel Víctor Torres, during a visit to Catarroja (Valencia), where reconstruction work is being carried out on municipal infrastructures damaged by the floods.
Torres affirmed that "the Government of Spain has demonstrated its commitment and continues to work, as it has done from the very beginning, to recover the areas affected by the DANA. We are taking firm steps to return to normality as soon as possible".
Of the €7.4 billion earmarked by the Government of Spain for the affected areas, €1.745 billion have been allocated to finance 100% of the reconstruction work on municipal infrastructures. "Today we are here in Catarroja to visit these infrastructures financed with funds from the Ministry of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, including the reconstruction of the underground garage in the Plaza Mayor, which is essential for the normalisation of life in the municipality," said Torres, who indicated that these works are costing €5.3 million.
The Government of Spain has allocated more than €420 million to the municipality of Catarroja, including funds for municipal infrastructures, funds from the Insurance Consortium, Civil Protection aid and aid from the Ministries of Housing, Agriculture, Finance, Youth, Economy and Transport.
Torres, who was accompanied by the Secretary of State for Territorial Policy, Arcadi España; the Government Delegate, Pilar Bernabé; the Mayoress of Catarroja, Lorena Silvent, and the special commissioner for the reconstruction and repair of the damage caused by the storm, José María Ángel, added that the Generalitat Valenciana and the affected municipalities have already been informed of the procedure for receiving the advance payment from the EU Solidarity Fund, which amounts to €100 million, of which €30.8 million will go to the autonomous community and €23.5 million to the town councils.
Tribute to the Guardia Civil in Alfafar
The minister also presided over a ceremony in Alfafar to pay tribute to the men and women of the Guardia Civil who took part in the recovery work to help the people affected, organised by the Mancomunitat de l'Horta Sud. The tribute was attended by the president of the Mancomunitat, José Cabanes.
"I would like to thank each of the 5,290 Civil Guards for their sacrifice and spirit of service, who have given their all to help the people affected, as well as the rest of the state law enforcement forces and agencies and all the public servants without whose professionalism and effort it would have been impossible to return to normality," he concluded.
