The Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, through the Spanish Service for the Internationalisation of Education (SEPIE), has launched the call 'Erasmus+ Ambassadors', aimed at creating a network of people who have lived the experience (students and teaching and administrative staff from all educational sectors) with the aim of enhancing the legacy of the programme, strengthening the European identity and fostering a more participative and engaged society.

The Minister for Science, Innovation and Universities, Diana Morant, said that this initiative responds to "the Spanish Government's commitment to this EU flagship programme, which promotes mobility and international cooperation in all educational and training institutions" and recalled that "Spain is the leading country in the European Erasmus league, the number one host country for Erasmus students in Higher Education for more than 20 years" in the European Union.

The ambassadors of this initiative will play a crucial role in promoting and disseminating the benefits of the programme, contributing to active participation in democratic life, strengthening common European values and civic engagement. They will also train and support future generations of Erasmus+ participants and contribute to the creation of a space for interaction between ambassadors.

The initiative is in line with the European Union's objectives of increasing civic participation, social engagement and a sense of European citizenship, especially at a time when social and cultural cohesion is needed more than ever. By fostering a deeper understanding of the EU and its values, the 'Erasmus+ Ambassadors' will act as role models in their communities, generating a positive impact and promoting active participation in social life; inspiring others to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the programme and to get actively involved in building a more united and caring Europe.

Registration to become part of the 'Erasmus+ Ambassadors' network, whose Spanish members will be selected by the SEPIE in collaboration with the different Ministries of Education of the Autonomous Communities, can be formalised from today, 9 May, until 9 June, on the SEPIE website.

Activities planned for Europe Day

SEPIE, which acts as the National Agency for the European Union's Erasmus+ programme in the field of education and training in Spain, has programmed various initiatives for the month of May, coinciding with Europe Day (9 May). The aim is to encourage citizen participation, highlight the feeling of belonging to Europe and promote the common values that unite us as European citizens. Solidarity, freedom, equality and diversity are the principles on which coexistence is based and the driving force behind cooperation, development and peace throughout Europe.

A number of communication and outreach activities have been organised to promote the interaction of people who have participated in Erasmus+ in its 38 years of existence, under the slogan "You make Europe: participate, share, transform". SEPIE will promote the exchange of experiences on social media, with the hashtags #EuropeDay #ErasmusPlus #TúHacesEuropa. It will encourage participation with animated images and through a question and answer game on its social networks, among others.

Erasmus Days 2025: the European campaign to raise the profile of Erasmus+

These initiatives come in addition to the launch of the new #ErasmusDays 2025 campaign, which aims to highlight the benefits of the Erasmus+ programme and show them to the public. To this end, the campaign seeks to involve the educational community and social actors (education and training organisations, companies, communities, associations, policy makers, media, etc.).

This year, with the campaign in its 9th edition, Erasmus Days will take place from 13 to 18 October. Education and training organisations participating in Erasmus+ will be able to register their activities from 12 May onwards via the Erasmus+ platform (www.erasmusdays.eu).

The first 800 activities registered by schools in Spain and validated by SEPIE will be sent an Erasmus+ promotional material kit for their outreach activities for the campaign.

In 2024, for the Erasmus Days campaign, more than 10,000 activities were organised in some 60 countries around the world, with Spain in third place for the number of activities organised by education and training organisations.

With these initiatives, the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities joins the collective effort to build a more united, plural and participatory Europe, highlighting the role of education and training as essential pillars for active citizenship.

EU Erasmus+ Programme

Erasmus+ has established itself as the EU's flagship programme, promoting mobility and cooperation between thousands of students, teaching and administrative staff, and professionals from various educational sectors (school, vocational education, higher education and adult education).

Spain stands out as a leading country in receiving and sending students and teachers in almost all educational sectors, which reflects our commitment to education and personal and professional development, with the aim of building a more committed and aware citizenry.

Erasmus+ supports active citizenship and ethics in lifelong learning, fostering the development of social and intercultural skills, as well as critical thinking and media literacy. Through innovative projects, priority is given to opportunities for democratic participation and social engagement.

In addition, the programme's essence is to contribute to raising awareness of the EU's common values, diversity and cultural and historical heritage. Erasmus+ thus fosters an understanding of the European Union from an early age, which is essential to promote active civic participation in building a united and democratic Europe.
