Félix Bolaños, responsible for the Government's relations with the Church, lamented the death of the pontiff, whom he described as "a good man and a great pope" whose humanist, supportive and reforming legacy will live on forever.

The minister highlighted his fight against inequality and injustice, his fight against climate change and his concern "for all those on the peripheries". He also recalled his defence of peace, always advocating dialogue in any type of conflict, his activism in the defence of human rights and his interest in migrants, victims of trafficking or conflicts such as those in Ukraine or Palestine.

On the pontiff's relationship with our country, Bolaños stressed that in the meetings they held, he was able to confirm his closeness, his sympathy and his affection for Spain.
