The Minister for Defence, Margarita Robles, today took part in the NATO-Ukraine Council of Defence Ministers, convened by the Secretary General of the Alliance, Jens Stoltenberg, at the request of the President of Ukraine.

The meeting, which was held by videoconference, began with opening remarks by Secretary General Stoltenberg and an intervention by President Volodymir Zelenski, who in view of the critical situation on the battlefield called for increased support to Ukraine.

Zelenski particularly insisted on the need to increase military supplies of air defence equipment vis-à-vis continued Russian drone, aircraft and missile attacks on Ukrainian civilians and critical infrastructure.

The Minister for Defence, who was accompanied by the Secretary General for Defence Policy, Admiral Juan Francisco Martínez Núñez, expressed Spain's firm commitment to Ukraine during her speech and underlined the important effort being made by our country.
