This proposal, which amends Regulation (EU) 2019/1009, aims to improve the legibility of labels, which will lead to a more efficient use of fertiliser products and simplify labelling obligations for suppliers. At the same time, it will also contribute to reducing costs for the industry.

This regulation strengthens the digitalisation of the fertiliser sector. The new rules will reduce bureaucracy and costs for producers and provide farmers with clear and easy information.

For the acting Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism, Héctor Gómez, "this regulation strengthens the digitalisation of the fertiliser sector. The new rules will reduce bureaucracy and costs for producers and provide farmers with clear and accurate consumer information when buying the products they need".

While the Council's position shares the main objectives of the amended regulation, it introduces a number of improvements in an attempt to strike the right balance between moving towards the digitisation of labels for economic operators and preventing potential information problems for end-users, considering the digital skills and connectivity limitations that some farmers may face.
