Spanish animation looks to Europe with the online project 'pUEnte, illustrated encounters'.
News - 2023.7.13
This is a set of 11 short animated pieces by Spanish illustrators and comic artists featuring traditions, arts and artists, instruments, stories and places that will bring to light little-known and unique aspects that unite the citizens of the European Union.
The selection of artists has been made by the artist and cartoonist Mauro Entrialgo. The participating creators are Álvaro Ortega, Cristina Daura, Grillante, Isidoro Valcárcel Medina, Javi de Castro, Laura Pérez Vernetti, María Medem, Miguel Brieva, Olga Capdevila, Ricardo Cavolo and Víctor Coyote; the musicians Diego Galaz, Germán Díaz, Javier Álvarez, Mariona Sagarra; and specialists such as Joaquín López Bustamante, Karlos Aizpurúa, Óyeme Studio and Xose Ambás.
The pieces tell stories, local, traditional, small-scale, seemingly unconnected, with a literary link and a link with Europe, representing the national spectrum, and with the common denominator of showing the closeness between Spain and Europe.
From 20 July until the end of December, they will be circulated through the social networks of Acción Cultural Española, the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Ministry of Culture and Sport and Arrebato Libros, and the different stories will also be hosted on Acción Cultural Española illustrated encounters.
The series opens with 'Silbo, de la Gomera al Tirol' by Olga Capdevila, an animated piece in which the author recreates a vocal journey between two of the most distant populations in Europe, with the aim of making visible two of the most ancestral communication systems on the continent.

The Silbo Gomero is a language, a basic tool for the shepherds who were far away from each other and from the villages.
The Yodel or Tyrolean Song was originally intended to be the call of the herdsmen in the mountains to communicate with their herds and with neighbouring villages.
In this animated piece, Olga Capdevila recreates a vocal journey between two of the most distant populations in Europe, a magical conversation that aims to make visible two of the most ancestral communication systems on the continent.
