Miquel Iceta visits the Marché du Film at the Cannes Film Festival 2023, where Spain is the Guest of Honour Country

The Minister for Culture and Sport, Miquel Iceta, this afternoon visited the Marché du Film at the Cannes Film Festival 2023, where Spain is Guest of Honour, under the slogan "The high moment of our cinema".

The minister underlined that "Spanish cinema is currently riding high, not only for its quality but also for its marketing in Europe and beyond". Iceta thanked the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation and ICEX for their commitment to "the internationalisation of our film and audiovisual industry". He pointed out that work is being done "to unite the best of two worlds: to convince the major platforms to come to Spain, and to promote the fact that our cinema is becoming better known and attracting greater profits".

Within the framework of the Marché, Spain has included in its programme as Guest of Honour a total of 13 producers taking part in the Spanish Spotlight of the Producers Network; the presentation of four documentary proposals in the Spanish Showcase of Cannes Docs; five projects in the development phase that go hand in hand with Spanish Screenings in Goes to Cannes; and eight short films to be shown in the Short Film Corner.

The Spanish programme also emphasises the country's attractiveness as a filming destination, the promotion of co-production and the Spain Audiovisual Hub of Europe Plan as part of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.

Eleven Spanish films will be screened in different sections at the 76th Cannes Film Festival, shot by both established directors such as Víctor Erice, Pedro Almodóvar and Carlos Saura, and new talents.
