Albares begins his tour of the Balkans to explain the broad outlines of the EU presidency
News - 2023.4.12
Albares' tour will allow for the signing of a memorandum of understanding to strengthen collaboration in the European integration process with each of the countries he visits. Serbia will be the first stop where he will sign the agreement with the Minister for European Integration, Tanja Miscevic. From Belgrade he travels on to Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina) on Thursday 13 April where, in addition to various institutional meetings, he plans to tour the city where he will visit the library rebuilt by Cooperación Española.
The final stage of the trip will take place on Friday 14 April, in Tirana (Albania), where the foreign affairs minister will sign the same cooperation agreement with his colleague Olta Xhaçka. The day will end in Skopje, where, in addition to formalising with his counterpart, Bujar Osmani, the signing of the same memorandum of understanding signed with the three previous countries, he will hold various institutional meetings with the authorities of North Macedonia before his return to Madrid.
Through this tour, Albares will have the opportunity to learn about ongoing cooperation processes, as well as to gain insight into the evolution of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue. At the same time, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, EU and Cooperation will present Spain's constructive side of the situation in the region, in which he supports the work of the European Union Representative, Miroslav Lajçak, and the search for a definitive and mutually acceptable solution to the conflict in the region.
